Chad Valley Wooden Playhouse Reviews3/5 ABC 123 'Our daughter loves her playhouse...but... It is far better when you have painted it as it's basically fence panels. We have had leaking issues from the panel roof so you need to ensure that it is re-treated. Also the screws supplied are not sufficient to adequatley put it together and we've fitted a magnetic lock as the door will not stay shut as supplied. In short it's an ok product but it needs a lot of love after you've built it - which is a mission unless you're a carpenter!'
5/5 Liam2121 'I have painted this in bright garden paint to personalise it. Grandson who is 15 months old loves it !'
4/5 Rose 'My daughter loves her playhouse, however a few parts weren't made correctly one wooden price was warped and there wasn't a hole in a place where a screw needed to be! However she plays in it everyday'
5/5 Gralday 'I bought this house for my 3 years old grand daughter and she doesn't want to get out! It's comfortable and we even slept in for her nap. Nice, nice. I might get another one for my nephews soon.'
5/5 Claire28 'Can't wait to see my baby girls face when she unwraps this on her birthday - it's amazing and great value for money x'
5/5 Super Mum 'The ultimate birthday present that lasts years rather than days and you can customise to suit that special child. Ac fantastic out door wendyhouse bags of entertainment through all weathers rain or shine !!'
1/5 Kevuk 'This house is so flimsy like balsa wood very light, Wood is not thick enough for the screws most of the wood cracks when you screw it together very poor quality. advise not to buy wasting your money.'
4/5 Ab123 'This is a great value playhouse. The only disappointing part was regarding assembly. There were no pre-drilled holes for fixing panels together and some pieces didn't meet up correctly. Required some minor alterations which anyone with basic DIY skills could manage. Perfect playhouse for young child due to its small size.'
3/5 Tay 'My son did love this house and it was very easy to assemble, however it was a lot smaller than expected and more flimsy than expected I also found that it had small holes in the roof that let a lot of rain in therefore the toys inside got very wet and ruined'
4/5 H 'Using as an outside summer shelter for our dog so ideal for this use. Looks great in the garden, has a good finish.'
4/5 Ek13 'Daughter loved this addition to our garden, a great place to let her imagination go wild! Quality item though assembly a little tricky at points.'
4/5 Ralph 'Went up easy and looked good.'
4/5 Bill23 'Playhouse is being enjoyed by three little girls and is excellent value'
3/5 Besotted Nanna 'Ok for the money. Would be better with a hinged roof so that you can put things in the house as doorway is so small you can only fit fold up chair in. Screws not the best would use better ones. 2yr old granddaughter happy though.'
5/5 JNL 'We bought this little playhouse as our daughter kept going in the chicken coop to play house!!Not good!!We had read the reviews&weren't sure if we were going to be really disappointed but apart from the instructions being a bit vague&a few screw mis-alignments,it went together well.We also felted the roof following other peoples' reviews&are pleased to say it is totally waterproof following a very heavy downpour upon completion! My daughter absolutely loves it&now leaves the coop alone!!'
4/5 Mother 'I'd read reviews about this play house and was a little dubious about getting it.. But I'm glad we did! It was fairly easy to build and a little common sense is needed. Yes some pieces of wood are very slightly misshaped/bowed but this is made of NATURAL MATERIAL which was a living thing and so this is common. You just need to give a few extra pushes to get things in line and use extra nails as other people have recommended. We will also be felting the roof and painting it. It's sturdy & pretty'
4/5 Liz 'Got for my granddaughters 1st birthday xx And she and her 4year old sister loved it'
1/5 Josh 'Poor quality wood split window broken'
5/5 Tall 'My daughter is made up with her house shes never out of it we have also put little curtine up in it and lights for her love it'
1/5 Mum Of Twins 'Item arrived for the twins 3rd Birthday. Put it up in a couple of hours, instructions are badly drawn and explained. We even felted the roof, one morning awoke to an awful sight. Two of the tongue and groove sides had pulled away from the frame, snapping wood with large screws all on show. Couldn't believe my eyes. So one phone call later it was pulled down ready to be collected. Two very distraught little girls but they now have a much bigger and shiplap one.'
2/5 Boo 'This play house is really flimsy, on assemble two windows cracked, the nails didnt fit the sides together properly and the door is really narrow! Just not great all round really!'
4/5 Tyler 'I got this half price. We haven't had chance to build it yet, but it looks easy enough. The wood is a little thin, but reasonable quality. The 'indoor' space is a little small, which is not made clear, you loose about a foot with the veranda. The door is really narrow and if you need to get in for any reason unless you are a size 0 super model you are not getting through that door. Its not perfect but because of the bargain price we can afford to spend extra making it suitable.'
5/5 Lizzylass 'I saw this on Uk Hot Deals and what a bargain it was I had read some of the reviews and was a bit hastie but I am so glad I bought it as it was easy to assemble it is really good quality we put some felt on the roof for some extra protection and we put some extra screws all round just for more stability my grandchildren love it to bits I have just finished painting it and the kids can't wait to get their stuff in, I would highly recommend.'
5/5 Miss Ruthie 'I bought this for my 2 year old daughter and she loves it. We had no problems putting it up & I think she will be using it for a good while. The door would benefit from a magnet to hold the door shut as it stays open. Also we will be taking the advice of the other reviews and felting the roof to stop the rain getting in.'
3/5 Bill 'Thin delicate wood. not water tight'
4/5 Mummychops 'I bought the house for my 4 and 6 year olds to play and also to put their bikes in. Painted most of it before assembly which was ok. Easy enough to put together with 2 people. I especially like the fact it has a floor to it and not just a shell standing on whatever surface you put it on. The front isn't attached to the rest of the house in the instructions so I added a couple of screws so it is. The kids love it and it is much bigger than the plastic playhouses that cost a lot more :)'
4/5 Katie 'This is lovely and girls play with it all the time. The door is narrow so is hard to get some toys in and out for them to play with. We got it half price and it was well worth the money. I would wait till it's on offer as not worth the full price. But overall we are very pleased with it'
1/5 Lana 'This was the worst money I have ever spent ive seen thicker plywood holes not drilled properly wood was all split had that many splitered edges would have taken a day to clear them off ......... item delivered he morning and sent back 2 hours later ............ and STILL waiting for my money back never again will I buy anything from argos to do with playhouses/sheds or furniture all have been a waste of money and not fit for the purpose !!!!'
4/5 Lynny 'A great little playhouse for our son who is 3 and looks brilliant. Ideal for a small garden but after looking on previous reviews I do agree with the fact you will need to buy felt for the roof as it does leak so bear that in mind when purchasing, apart from that a good purchase for the price although I don't agree with the delivery charge as I would have been willing to pick up in store !!'
3/5 Devon Darling! 'Had lots of trouble assembling this as wood was warped and does not go together well. More stability screws were needed to make the playhouse robust enough for the 2 and 5 year old it was bought for. Recommend lots of wood filler to make more watertight. For the money it was okay but would not want to use without the improvments we made to it.'
3/5 Jackie 'Very flimsy poor quality even had filler in it with cello tape over lots of edges weren't finished off.'
5/5 Celiaba 'This was a present for my granddaughter!! Absolutely fantastic buy! My daughter was very impressed with the quality and quick delivery!! Well done Argos x!! Will shop with you again!!!'
3/5 Markieboy 'The quality of this play house isn't great, the wood on the one I got was a bit warped making assembly a bit tricky. The screws supplied were very bad quality. Other issues were, there were a few holes in the panels which were filled with wood filler, and one of the heart shaped mouldings was snapped in two. Following advice in the other reviews, I felted the roof (photo taken before felt). In spite of its failings, the play house is better looking than a plastic one, and my kids love it.'
4/5 Twinmummy 'Lovely, small playhouse, which is exactly what we wanted! Took 3 people to assemble and not all holes for the screws were in place so a little guess work required! Wood was bowed on the side panel and one roof panel but once screws were tightened fitted together well. Looks lovely in our garden and perfect for our little twins as they get older.'
4/5 Levy 'Easy to assemble, good value for money. Would recommend you apply a coat of wood preservative once built. Very happy with the delivery time slots with no hassle delivery. Would recommend product.'
5/5 Anathka 'My kids just love this product and I will definetely recommend it'
4/5 Stevie 'Good condition on arrival. Could have done with a bit clearer instructions, but with a bit of common sense was put together quite well. Grandaughter very pleased with it.'
2/5 Pdf75 'Pros: Easy to assemble, looks good and kids love it, low cost Cons: As soon as moisture gets in to the machine dried wood, it swells up and some of the planks will simply pop off. To prevent this get some wood preserver / waterproofing /extra screws / felting etc on before the rain gets to it! If you do the above the pros do outweigh the cons'
4/5 Mele 'Can't fault the completed house but our only complaint was an instruction book without instructions! Just six pages of blanks, after many words which I won't repeat we got a ladies pictures off of Internet And got the general idea what went 1st and with my very kind sister in law the house was completed quite quickly did need to buy new screws too others were rubbish, my two and a half year old loves it and we're pleased with it too'
1/5 Rai 'I am so disappointed, the quality of the kit is just poor. Three of the window panes were cracked and the back panel didn't fit. We decided to keep it & add some extra wood to assemble it, & will replace the panes later as we just couldn't face exchanging. Argos were very good & gave us a discount. But I have to say our 18 month son absolutely loves it, so if he was to review he'd give it 5 out of 5! It does look lovely in the garden though, as you can't see the bodged panel at the back.'
1/5 Brookskl 'Not impressed with this item, the parts didn't line up correctly the screws just turnt in the precut holes, we spent afternoon making it stronger would of returned if I had brought it but it was gift from grandparents, worst item I have ever brought! We had to spend additional money on felt for roof as it leaked!!!'
5/5 Roo 'Assembly was easy and took my husband about 4 hours to build it himself. Feel slightly misled re its size, it has a veranda and I wrongly assumed the 4x4 footprint area excluded this. Therefore the actual inside of the wee house is only 3x4 approx - consider what toys go in the playhouse before you put the roof on so that you can lower toys in. Either that put a hinge on the roof so you can easily lift things in and out as doorway too narrow. Overall a good buy and the finish looks fantastic.'
3/5 KH1 'My 2 and 4 year old love it. But myself and my husband are unsure as to how long it will last! Didnt take us long to put together! Quite simple. But my husband complained about the screws that come with it. So id advise to buy better ones. Plus, the wood kept cracking in some places when putting in screws. Not the best wood, but cant complain too much for the price! All in all, when its assembled it looks great! Quite sturdy too, and kids are happy!'
5/5 Karen4666 'Grand-daughter loves it. extremely pleased with this. good product. good value for money'
2/5 Spanna 'Fairly easy to put together, screws missing & small screws that hold roof parts on, too short, needed replacing. Door not big enough for adult so won't be playing inside with kids. Kitchen we put inside would not fit through the door so had to put it in before the roof. The roof is not water tight so we will need to felt that ASAP. This one is pretty I only hope it wears better than it looks like it will it definitely needs painting before too long too, gutted.'
4/5 Pagey 'Good quality item. Would recommend'
5/5 Phoebe 'I bought this playhouse for my two little girls aged 2 & 3. Its a good size for them, although my 3 year old has to just watch her head coming in and out of the door - she's pretty tall for 3 mind. It went together easily, seems nice and solid. The door is a bit narrow for adults to get in and out but then its not made for us! Overall I'm really pleased with the quality and finish on the playhouse. We have painted it inside and out and it looks perfect.I think the girls will have a good couple of years play out of it and I'm confident that it will go on to a good home after they are done with it.'
3/5 Kenaida 'It was simple to construct and looks beautiful. But the front posts are easily broken off if your child is prone to leaning/swinging off things.'
1/5 Fish And Chips 'Got this playhouse for my grandchildren but two screws in to putting it together the wood split twice (NOT GOOD) SORRY ARGOS. good enough Argos is going to refund my money'
5/5 Nanna 'This item was delivered on time in very good condition, and it took us about 3 hours to put together. But the test is in my granddaughters reaction and she loved it. The door needed at bit of refitting but otherwise a very good purchase.'
1/5 Hjs 'The available play size is seriously reduced by the porch area so inside is quite small. Worst issue is that after 2 days of rain the entire base has buckled so much it has ripped the screws out of the base and is unusable until I have determined a way to fix it or sent it back to Argos- but having spent money on weatherproof paint to cheer it up I am reluctant to have wasted my money. Poor wood finish also required a lot of work sanding it to make it safe for children to play in. Really not happy with this at all and would not recommend it to anyone.'
4/5 CB 'We got this for my two year old and he was over the moon with it! He spends lots of time putting stuff in and taking it all out again. Much nicer looking than a lot of the plastic playhouses that you can buy. Well constructed although one panel needed a little repair and we did add in a few extra screws just to make it a little more stable and toddler proof. Overall we are very pleased with this purchase and would recommend it to others.'
3/5 Alex.w. 'I was expecting better quality for that price..'
4/5 Alfie 'Took a wee time to assemble , all pieces & screws there.'
5/5 Panda 'Lovely little house, our 2 year old loves it. Took hubby less than an hour to put together'
5/5 Rosco 'Fantastic little playhouse, easy to build although the roof takes some figuring out and you need at least 2 people. Once finished it looks great and our children love it.'
5/5 Millipops 'I brought this for my 3 yr old and she loves it, very study but could do with better screws to fix it ( so my joiner husband says!) The door is very narrow so struggle getting chairs in if they don't fold but my daughter thinks it's great and that's what's count. Well worth the money'
4/5 Candi87 'I bought this for my daughters 1st birthday to share with her 3 year lod sister really pleased with the finsh only thing i have to complin about is argos missed out a packet of scews so we had to go and buy some. overall its big enough for both my daughters to play in and get a couple of chairs in'
